Artist Portfolio

Ty McCaig is a Saskatoon-based multimedia artist whose work spans analog and digital photography, videography, alternative photography and collage. With a focus on process and experimentation, Ty creates hand-developed film images, often exploring experimental developing techniques such as caffenol.

Since 2023 Ty has experimented with alternative photographic works, including cyanotypes and anthotypes, that push the boundaries of substrate and chemical interaction. Recently, Ty has focused on long-exposure techniques and fractal prism filters in live event photography, capturing dynamic, abstract representations of light and movement.

Ty’s most recently had a major body of work, Hard Edges, selected for the City of Saskatoon’s U of S Field House program. Ty has participated in artist residencies including the AKA/PAVED Arts Open Studio Program and the City of Saskatoon’s Bunkhouse Artist Residency and was the lead photographer for Nuit Blanche YXE25.

Ty is the author of Sound and Sight, a photography book exploring local music culture and collaboration. Ty has also self-published Reframe and the zine series; Crate Diving: Analog Chronicles. Beyond photography, Ty is a cofounder of Crate Fest, a local music festival in Saskatoon.
