Artist Portfolio

Ty McCaig is a Saskatoon-based multimedia artist whose work spans analog and digital photography, videography, alternative photography, and collage. With a focus on process and experimentation, Ty shoots film and creates hand-developed images, often using caffenol, a specific alternative developing method. In parallel, Ty experiments with alternative forms of photography such as cyanotypes and anthotypes, exploring the interactions of light, chemicals, and substrate.

Since 2023, Ty has focused on long-exposure techniques and fractal prism filters in live event photography, capturing dynamic, abstract representations of light and movement. Ty has produced several music videos, served as lead photographer for Nuit Blanche YXE 2025, and published three photography books, including the Sound & Sight series, which document the prairie music scene through live performance and behind-the-scenes imagery.

Ty’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, including early solo shows in Toronto, ON, as well as Hard Edges (2025) and Photographía (2026), both selected by the City of Saskatoon for exhibition at the U of S Field House, and group shows including the Riversdale Art Walk in 2025 and 2026. Ty has participated in artist residencies including the AKA/PAVED Arts Open Studio Program and the City of Saskatoon’s Bunkhouse Artist Residency.
